The Environment Agency has stated that space in many of the country's landfill sites will run out within the next seven years. The average British household produces approximately a tonne of waste annually, 80% of which could easily be recycled or composted, preserving valuable space in our landfill sites.
Here in the United Kingdom there is a continued pressure to reduce waste as landfill sites rapidly fill to capacity. In response to this looming environmental catastrophe the government is supporting local councils to initiate comprehensive recycling incentives and encourage appropriate households to compost in order to drastically reduce the amount of waste currently going into landfill sites. In some regions of the UK fortnightly refuse collections are being introduced whilst further changes can be expected relating to taxation and charges.
